Kaskantine offers a wide variety of opportunities that match different interests and commitment levels. These include longer-term commitments like serving on our Solar Team or Compost Crew, to shorter-term options such as participating in a day-long climate change crash course or joining in occasional climate discussions in our garden. Additionally, we have open volunteer days, a food rescue program, drop-in Garden Workdays, a clothes repair workshop, and a year-long Urban Homesteading course.
In addition to offering classes on these topics, we also encourage community members to work together to solve local ecological and social problems. By building community and working together, we can increase our resilience and make our neighborhoods stronger and better able to withstand shocks or challenges.
We believe that creating a place where people can learn these skills is essential, as many people today live in cities and may not have access to the resources or knowledge needed to learn these skills on their own.
Overview of the Possibilities
Become a member of our Green Team
All our activities would be not possible without our Green Team, a committed group of incredible volunteers who generously give their time, energy, and knowledge to build Kaskantine together. If you are seeking a meaningful project to commit to and learn from, we encourage you to join our volunteer team. Open positions can be found here.
Join the Drop-in Workdays
This opportunity is great for everyone who doesn't have the time for a long-term commitment, but would like to work outside, gain some knowledge, and meet new people. On these days, we work on gardening, composting, or building. Check out our calendar for open volunteer days.
Participate in Climate Meetups
We organise meetups on climate change, and you are welcome to join us as much or as little as you'd like. We have meetups to discuss different thoughts and ideas, a book club, and we also offer the Climate Fresk on a regular basis.
