Commitment: Fridays, every 2 weeks drivers in the morning and market
Overview: Do you hate food waste? Would you like to become part of the Food Rescue Team? 😃 One of our goals at the Kaskantine is to save as much food as possible from becoming food waste. Our volunteers are essential for making that happen!
We are seeking a responsible and reliable individual to join our team as a food rescue volunteer. In this role, you will pick up food waste from local shops and businesses that would otherwise be discarded. You will work with other volunteers to ensure that all food is collected and delivered safely.
Food waste is a major issue, both in terms of food security and the environment. Approximately one third of all food produced globally is wasted, and this waste contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. By rescuing and redistributing food that would otherwise be thrown away, we can help reduce waste and combat climate change. As a food rescue volunteer, you will play a crucial role in helping us address this important issue.
Responsibilities:
Pick up food waste from local shops and businesses with electric bakfiets, regular bikes, or an electric van
Work with other volunteers to ensure that all food is collected and delivered safely
Qualifications:
Reliability, responsibility and patience
Ability to safely operate a bike and transport food
You have good interpersonal and communication skills
EnvironmentalImpact of Reduced Food Waste:
According to Project Drawdown, “Roughly one-third of the world’s food is never eaten. By reducing loss and waste, we can reduce the need for land and resources used to produce food as well as the greenhouse gases released in the process. After taking into account the adoption of the Plant-Rich Diet solution, Reduced Food Waste can avoid 88.50–102.20 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 2050.”
