Open Positions

Are you troubled by the fast fashion industry and the massive waste it generates? Would you like to help create local solutions to address these challenges? We believe in the importance of reusing and prolonging the life of clothing, which is why we're establishing a Clothes Rescue Team focused on organizing clothes swaps and repair events. These community-driven initiatives aim to combat the throwaway culture and promote sustainability by fostering more swapping, sharing, and repair practices.
Why This Matters: The number of times a garment is worn has declined by around 36% over the past 15 years. Today, many items are worn only seven to ten times before being discarded. This represents a significant increase in throwaway culture, as highlighted in the article "10 Concerning Fast Fashion Waste Statistics." We’re looking to build a team of passionate volunteers who specialize in organizing clothes swaps and can assist with clothing repair and education.
Commitment/Workday: Sundays, Sundays, every 2 weeks, from 11:00-14:00
Overview: We’re looking to build a dedicated team of volunteers to help organize and run a regular Clothes Swap and Repair Café. This project aims to tackle the issue of clothing waste by providing a space for the community to exchange clothes and learn repair skills. By hosting these events on a regular basis, we hope to make a significant impact on reducing textile waste in our community.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate as part of a team to set up and manage the Clothes Swap in the greenhouse.
Assist participants during the swap, offering guidance and support throughout the event.
Share repair skills with attendees, helping them fix their clothes and learn new techniques.

Contribute proactively to the planning and execution of these monthly community events, held on Sundays.
Qualifications:
Passionate about sustainability and reducing clothing waste.
Enjoys working as part of a team and sharing skills with others.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Reliable, responsible, and proactive.
Willingness to commit to a regular schedule and help grow this community initiative.
Food Rescue Team Members
Do you hate food waste? Would you like to become part of the Food Rescue Team? One of our goals at the Kaskantine is to save as much food as possible from becoming food waste. Our volunteers are essential for making that happen!
Why This Matters:
According to Project Drawdown, “Roughly one-third of the world’s food is never eaten. By reducing loss and waste, we can reduce the need for land and resources used to produce food as well as the greenhouse gases released in the process. After taking into account the adoption of the Plant-Rich Diet solution, Reduced Food Waste can avoid 88.50–102.20 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 2050.”
